Product Review: Golf For Dummies DVD

Golf for Dummies

First things first.  I know it has been a while since I have posted anything up here and there is good reason for that.  My computer decided to take a dump on me, so I have been and continue to be without one.  So the updates will be few and far between until my computer gets fixed.  Onto the review:

Last week I decided to check out Golf for Dummies at the Grand Forks Library just because I needed my golf fix.  Believe it or not this DVD is good, really good!  First, of all it was done by Gary McCord.  You know the golf announcer?  I actually like Gary a lot and especially in this DVD.  The DVD covers the basics of almost everything from etiquette, to the grip, to the swing, to different parts of the course.  You can skip to a certain section or watch the whole DVD in full.  Gary teaches each well and with ease.  The one thing I really liked is all his training drills involved almost nothing except from time to time a 2"x4".  This makes these drills simple and inexpensive.  The extras section had a huge dictionary of golf terms that I found very informative and funny from time to time.  I loved almost everything about this DVD.  One thing I do wish this DVD did have, was the ability to go into each section in more detail.  This is a Golf for Dummies DVD thought not an all inclusive Golf information and lessons DVD series.  I enjoyed this DVD very much though, and watched it twice before I returned it.  I actually want this DVD as an Easter gift, because I liked it so much.  I suggest this DVD as a gift for any beginning or intermediate golfer, and for yourself it is a nice fun easy resource if you are having problems in any part of your golf game.  The DVD is around $10 on Amazon, and the book and DVD bundle is $29 which you can see below.  So go ahead take a look at it and buy it if you would like.  I recommend it.

Where I Would Love to Have my Birthday at!

So I was surfing around at golf stuff on the internet looking for golf tournaments in my general home area (more on that later) and I found a place where I would love to have my birthday party.  I know I'm a little old to be having birthday parties but this place just looks plain sweet.  It's called Inside Edge Golf in Eden Prairie Minnesota.  This place looks just plain sweet.  They have tons of indoor golf simulators and an indoor putting green with a bunker!  If you live in the Twin Cities this should be your winter golf place.  The prices seem O.K. for both the putting green and simulators.  The simulator prices are per the hour not per person so grab some friends and the price is fair.  You can play all the famous courses you would never get to play in real life due to exclusivity and of course price on the simulator.  I really wish I lived closer to the Twin Cities over the summer or during the school year, because this place has me excited.  So yeah if you live or travel to the Twin Cities area check this place out.  I hope I get a chance to see it soon.

Pro-Am

Photo from pgatour.com

Well I got to watch part of the Pro-Am today, and it was pretty interesting.  D. A. Points came away with a pretty stress free first tournament win due to Steve Marino choked away his chance of winning which is sad but happens and I'm sure he'll spend quite some time working on keeping his composure.  Pebble Beach looked beautiful as always and remains one of my favorite courses to watch on T.V.  The main highlight for me of watching the Pro-Am was Bill Murray.  He played some really good golf for a guy his age and was entertaining to watch the whole time.  I think I might need to go watch Caddyshack now to finish off the day.
Reminder to all the guys out there:  Valentines Day is tomorrow go get your special lady a gift!
P.S.  I also wondered what D. A. stood for.

SUPERBOWL TIME!!!!!

It is Super Bowl time and my favorite team is playing so I will be out of the news of golf all day like I have been all weekend, but I encourage you all to watch the Super Bowl.  May the spirit of Vince Lombardi be with the Packers today.
The moment we have all been waiting for!

Golf Lesson: 3-Step Instant Slice Killer, by Jason Carbone

3-Step Instant Slice Killer, by Jason Carbone | Videos | Golf.com

This video is amazing.  I had this problem and it was so bad I actually got one swing lesson to correct this, but he didn't show me this way to correct my grip.  He kept making me twist my right hand counterclockwise more (I'm left handed).  Doing it this way does the exact same thing and makes the grip feel a lot less awkward.  Go ahead try it out if your having this problem.  I wish I would have seen this video before I paid that money for a swing lesson.

Good Ending to Farmers Insurance Open

Well the ending to the Farmers Insurance Open was a pretty exciting one.  With two lefty's slugging it out for first place.  In the end it came down to see if Phil, the master of the wedge could make an amazing wedge shot, but sadly he did not, but came extremely close.  So Bubba Watson won it.  I was rooting for Phil but hey Bubba is a lefty too so I see no harm in him winning haha.  I wish Daly would have done better, but you don't expect him to do much except have the longest drive of every tournament he is in.  I wish he would win some time though which I've explained in other blog posts.  Either way it was a very exciting end to the tournament which kept me glued to my T.V.  We need more endings like this to increase interest and T.V. ratings for golf.  I know my girlfriend even stayed interested for this one so that is a good thing.  So if this is how exciting the season is starting I'm excited to watch the rest of it.

Farmer's Insurance Open Saturday

I'm watching shot tracker right now since I'm on campus doing homework and John Daly is actually doing good. He's tied for 9th now.  I'm excited about that because Daly is the guy I always wish would win because he almost never does so I guess he is the underdog I would like to cheer for.  Mickelson is doing good as well and I have to cheer for a fellow lefty.  The match is on CBS life right now and will be on there again tomorrow.  Tiger is way back in 30th spot but still within distance of catching the leaders if he has an amazing round today and tomorrow.  The seems like it would be a very exciting match to watch so I suggest anyone that is bored and has free time to go watch it on T.V. right now.
