So I'm finally starting to get some time for golf stuff again, and after spending some time on YouTube I felt like I needed to share with everyone this video of Bubba Watson getting an eagle at Kapalua in 2011 by hitting driver off the deck. Enjoy.

Golfing 18 at Butternut Hills

Yesterday since I had some spare cash and time I decided to golf 18 at Butternut Hills Golf Course in Sarona Wisconsin.  My mom decided to come with and pay for the cart so I didn't have to walk this time which was enjoyable.  I didn't warm up so I did even worse than normal on the first few holes.  My slice was horrible for almost the whole first half of the course, but after that I took care of it and only had a few wayward shots, which was pretty satisfying.  I golfed real good between the 8th and 14th holes.  I almost got a hole in one on the 8th (picture below) and got a few pars and a birdie on the 14th.  I was hitting my shots real well on those holes and got gir almost every time.  I would ruin it with my putting though.  After the 14th I could tell I was getting tired from not golfing much and my shots became real inconsistent.  Also I did all this without my pitching wedge which magically disappeared somewhere between the last time I golfed and now.  Anyway I had fun and hope to get some more golfing in soon.  Here are some pictures.

US Open

So I've been spending a little time watching the US Open at the Olympic Club in California.  So far going into the final round there are a lot of players bunched up in easy range of winning.  In fact there are 11 guys within 4 shots of the leaders McDowell and Furyk.  The big story is a 17 year old kid and amateur Beau Hossler.  He was tied for the lead for a while on Friday.  He's 4 shots from the leaders right now and has an actual shot at being the first amateur to win a major in a long long time.  He seems really calm under the media attention and pressure so far.  I wish him the best of luck.  Tiger Woods did horrible today and ended up 5 over par for the day and is 5 shots away from the leader.  With a close field I suggest everyone tune in to watch on Sunday, because it is for sure going to get exciting.

Neillsville Country Club Review

Yesterday, I was finally able to golf for my first time this Summer.  I went with my dad, who is not doing well with cancer and my half brother.  We golfed at my Dad's home course, the Neillsville Country Club.  The course was founded in 1935 and is a 9 hole course.  It's layout is quite interesting though, because due to there being multiple tee boxes in different areas each one has a different look at the hole.  The course prices are about a whole 2 dollars more than I expected for how the course is.  Nine holes on the weekday is $14 and on the weekend it is $16.  The grass seems like it is a natural grass, unlike sod at the more expensive courses, and there is a lot of clover and other things on the course.  This seems extremely easy to play.  All of the holes are straight shots except for a very slight dogleg on the 9th.  You don't have much to deal with in the way of obstacles, except some sand traps and a few out of bounds areas.  The course is extremely hilly with lots of holes where you can not see the green from the tee box.  This doesn't really cause many problems though due to the completely straight holes.  If you overshot the green on a few of the holes you would be given a challenge of trying to chip up a what I might call a ridge.  You can see my half brother with that issue in one of the pictures below.  What is extremely difficult though is putting.  As I said before the course is really really hilly including on the greens.  Four and five foot puts that look like sure things are not in any way shape or form, and I found putting my only real frustration on the course.  It was a frustration though.  This course would be so simple it would be a joke if it wasn't for the difficult greens.  Overall I enjoyed the course and playing it was for the most part satisfying.

I played very well thanks, to my father who is what I would call a golf expert giving me tips on how to fix me swing and what club to use and so on.  It was amazing!  Usually I spend all 18 holes trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and get super frustrated and want to give up golf.  My dad would tell me how and get my issue fixed by the next swing.  It really was a happy moment for me.  I can not described how much I enjoyed my dad helping me golf.  Anyway back to how I golfed.  I had only a few difficult shots on the course usually involving being behind a tree due to a bad drive, but the shot I had on the 18th was ridic.  I will have pictures of it below.  I was basically in the bunker, extremely close to a railroad tie where my swing would hit it.  I believe if I can remember what my dad taught me I would enjoy golfing for the rest of the summer and I believe I'm going to be golfing a little more now that my frustration is gone.  As long as it doesn't come back expect a lot more blog posts.

By the way congrats to Tiger for winning yesterday.  He was 4 strokes down and had the flu coming into Sunday and ended up winning by 2 strokes.  His shot on 16 was nothing short of a top 10 moment and I say congrats for being one scary mofo on the golf course agian.

It's Summer break once again!

Well I am back in Wisconsin for the Summer once again.  I have only been back a day, but since I got done with work early and had nothing else to do I got some practicing in.  I was using birdie balls which I only have 3 left.  I need to save up and get some more.  I don't know where the other ones went, but I still love using these things.  Anyway I did quite well during practice with only my first two swings giving me that horrible slice I couldn't get rid of last year.  I spent a lot of time on making my swing right and not swinging fast.  I was hitting the birdie balls really well and was even getting a nice draw out of a few of the shots.  This is really good to me, because the furthest away I can get from that slice and my horrible habit of it the better.  I still have a lot more practicing to do before I can get that out of my system I'm sure, but I'm off to a good start.  My brother is coming home almost every week to golf at Butternut Hills Golf Course, and is spending a lot of time harassing me to pay for a membership.  I am considering it, but I don't know how much excess funds I will have to dedicate to golf this summer.  I know if I start golfing again I will need a new used driver as mine is literally falling apart along with a hybrid and some fairway woods.  I don't like spending that much money on anything being a poor college student so we will see how the Summer golf goes.  Anyway here are some pictures of me practicing today with my dog Pogo.

Rickie Fowler finally got his first PGA Tour win!!!

It is about time!  I'm stuck here studying for finals and just got informed that Rickie Fowler finally did it!  This is great I am excited if you can't tell.  This guy has been a favorite among the fans.  He is also one of my favorite golfers, probably because my girlfriend likes him and Puma.  In case you don't know him Rickie is a 23 year old right handed golfer whose main sponsor is Puma.  He won the tournament on the first hole of a sudden death playoff between Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points both extremely good golfers.  Congrats Rickie on the win and may many more come, as I love watching you golf!  Your in inspiration to young golfers everywhere!

Update on what is going on with me recently

Well recently I have continued to be busy with school as always and have not got any golf related activities in.  In better news though my brother purchased a membership at Butternut Hills Golf Course and has been driving from the Twin Cities there a lot to go golfing.  This is good yet still discouraging me as if his skill level is way higher than mine it will not be fun, because we are way to competitive.  I have so many other things on my plate that golf is still on the back burner for me and I apologize for that, but there isn't much I can do about it till I get other things taken care of.  I hope when this Summers comes I'll have some spare time and cash to get some golfing in.

It's Masters Time!

Sadly I've been bombarded with schoolwork even worse than normal this semester.  It was kept me from doing anything involving golf and it has even kept me from the Masters.  But today I only have a few light assignments to do and I may get to watch The Masters.  In case you haven't been updated on what I call the one golf event you must watch I will give you some info.  There is an old amature in the field this year even a 54 year old Randall Lewis.  Could you imagine how amazing that would be.  Your 54 there is no way your expecting to win your amature let alone end up at Augusta.  That really shows you that you have a shot at any age.  There has been no huge breakout yet for any player in The Masters which is good for me since I wasn't able to watch anything yesterday.  I am also sad I missed the par 3 tournament which may be my favorite non tournament yet for The Masters.  Anyway I'm rambling so now it is time to give you some information on how you can watch the masters and enjoy the amazingness.  First of all you can watch The Masters on their website www.masters.com.  The online coverage starts at 9:45 am central time today.  For T.V. The Masters will be on ESPN starting at 2 P.M. central time.  On Saturday The Masters will be on CBS starting at 2:30 P.M., and on Sunday The Masters will conclude again on CBS starting at 1 P.M.  I will try to keep giving blog updates on how The Masters is going, but I can't make any promises as I have an essay and a group project to complete today, and a paper to complete for the rest of the weekend.  I'm sure there is another assignment in somewhere too I forgot.  Anyway quit reading this and go watch everything Masters and feel the magic!

Man sues golf club for over $13 million! No I'm not kidding.

So this news article popped up for me today.  This guy from Ireland is suing his golf club for lowering his handicap.  I really can not believe this but I guess it is true.  I don't know what the legal system is like in Ireland, but this case needs to be thrown out.  I would love for my clubs to decrease my handicap by almost 8 strokes. Sigh people these days seriously.

Holy exciting end to the Northern Trust Open!

I just got done watching the North Trust Open and wow was that an exciting end to the tournament.  Bill Hass ended his 18 with only a one shot lead over Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley.  The end of regulation ended with Phil making a put with only a 9% make rate for a birdie and Keegan (who was golfing with Phil) made his put for birdie as well which sent it into a playoff.  The group of 3 started on the 18th again with both Hass and Bradley just crushing some drives way further than Phil's  Phil and Keegan both had good second shots within birdie range and Hass came up short of the green with his second.  Hass chipped his third shot within a few feet of the hole.  Phil put his third as well within a few feet of the hole.  Leaving Keegan Bradley with a put to win the tournament.  He missed the shot left by only about a foot.  At this time everyone has close shots for their par.   Haas made his par, Phil made his, and Bradley makes his as well they move onto the next playoff hole.

Onto hole number 10.  Phil tees off first and hooks his ball into the rough with a very difficult shot.  Bradley puts his shot into the bunker by the green and Hass puts his shot into the rough behind the green.  Haas shoots his second about 40 feet away with a layup.  Phil hits the green right by the flag but the ball rolls into the other bunker.  Keegen's second shot out of the bunker lands by the flag and rolls off into the fringe giving him an ever slow slight advantage over the other players.  Hass puts his long put right into the hole for par giving phil an almost impossible shot to tie it.  Phil's shot out of the sand is short so he's out.  It's Bradley's turn to see if the playoff will go to another hole.  Bradley misses his put making Bill Hass the winner of the tournament.

This was about as exciting as golf could get.  A two player come behind to put it into a 3 player golf.  Phil doing what he tends to do and get himself out of sticky situations.  Wow that was exciting!  I'm still excited about it!  I'm just out of words to say about this amazement just go watch replays wow!

ATT Pro Am End

Well I missed the beginning of the Pro Am Sunday, because I was shopping, but I saw the majority of it.  When I did get back to it I was amazed to see that the lefty Phil was in the lead.  I know from the day before he was sitting back there a ways and the announcers didn't seem to confident he would make a comeback.  He did though he ended up winning the tournament with Tiger tying for 15th.  In my opinion 15th isn't to bad of a place.  It seems like Tiger is going to win a tournament this year if he keeps playing like he did every day but Sunday.  I didn't get to see any shenanigans done by Bill Murray which was sad but oh well.  Either way congrats on the win Phil and keep on working on it Tiger.

ATT Pro Am Saturday

So since I have no money, or homework, or anything else I have to do I actually have a chance to watch the Pro Am today.  I enjoyed it.  Bull Murray was there and comical as always.  He was dressed up in full camo.  Tiger was there and was doing well I believe he ended that day in third.  This is probably a good thing for golf and will give pro golf more viewers now that Tiger is out of his phunk.  What I really enjoyed about it though was Aaron Rodgers was golfing.  Being a die hard Packer fan not knowing that he was one of the celebs in the Pro Am was at minimum a sin.  Aaron didn't play to well, but I don't think he is to much of a golfer.  I am excited to see a few things tomorrow.  One Aaron Rodgers of course, two see what fun stuff Bill Murray does, and three to see if Tiger will pull a come from behind victory.  I only caught the last hour of play so I don't have to much else to tell you yet, but hopefully I will have some more to say tomorrow.

What pisses me off about watching golf on tv

So I finally got some spare time to watch some golf on t.v. before the Super Bowl, and I am getting annoyed with one thing.  The guy who always yells "IT'S IN THE HOLE!" On every shot someone makes.  It doesn't matter if they are still two shots away from getting on the green they still yell it.  What is going on here?  Is there some prize you get for calling a shot in the hole first or what?  To me it really gives golf fans a bad rap in my opinion.  Does anyone have an answer why someone yells it every time no matter what kind of shot it is?  Hearing the same thing every 30 seconds while watching golf makes me wanna change the channel.  Anyway there I'm done with my rant I hope you enjoyed it.

Grand Forks indoor golf tournament

I herd on the radio yesterday that this coming weeend there is going o be a first even indoor golf tounament in Grand Forks.  I don't know a bunch of the details, but you go from bar to bar doing some sort of golf.  You can register at any of the bars that are doing it.  From what I have herdsome of the participating bars are Borrowed Bucks Roadhouse, Rumors, and Whitey's, but I believe there are more bars.  It is $25 to register your team and I do not know what number of people you need for a team though.  Either way if anyone reading this from the Grand Forks area that is going to go I wouldn't mind knowning more about it, and if you are going to do it let me know how it is.  Also the first place prize is a trip to Vegas and cash.  So if you ot some friends go to one of the bars and register.

You Can Now View This Blog On Kindle!

After some work my blog is now on the Kindle!  I consider this a pretty big accomplishment for myself thanks to you the viewers.  Now you can view this blog on a feed on the regular blogger site, and now Kindle!  What is next?  Who knows, but this is a big step for the blog.  Hopefully I shall have some new updates for you guys soon as the semester is coming to an end and I can go fire up the Golf Channel back in Wisconsin, and look up some golf world news on my laptop.  Anyway here is the link to the Kindle edition of this blog.

First Time Watching Golf In A Long Time - Chevron World Challenge

So I have been away from golf on T.V. for a while due being busy with school, curling, and watching the Packers.  Today in between watching football I was watching golf.  And somehow to my amazement not only was Tiger leading on a Sunday, but he ended up winning the tournament!  I was saying to myself "I know I haven't seen golf for a few months, but when did Tiger start being good?"  Apparently this tournament is when he started to to be good.  Hopefully I'll have some more golf to watch for you guys soon.  The win for Tiger came down to the last put on the 18th green.  This is the kind of excitement golf needs to remind people that there is suspense in golf and it can go back and forth until the last possible second.  I'll tell you right now this reminded me that I like golf and I should try to pay more attention to it.  This was Tiger's 88th tournament win and although it was not part of the PGA Tour it snapped him out of his over 2 year streak of not winning.  So I'd like to say thanks Tiger for getting me excited for golf and congrats on the long awaited win.

Inexpensive Golf Gift Ideas

1.  BirdieBall


As many of you know I purchased these in the Spring on clearance and love them.  They are durable enough to just justify the price, but if you can find them cheaper then by all means by them.  They are a limited range practice ball that is just plain fun to hit.  I've even convinced some friends to want them now.  Minus the ones my friends lost I still have all my birdie balls and they all still work fine.  Even the one that got run over by a mower!

2.  Tiger Woods: PGA Tour 12

I wanted this game when it first came out, but it was crazy expensive.  It's cheap now and it's not even 2012 yet.  This game has gotten good reviews, and now it is under $30 which is cheap for new video games.  If I had some spare cash lying around I'd snatch this up.

3.  Golf for Dummies DVD

As you guys know I checked out this DVD from the library and I loved it.  Gary McCord is the star in it, and he is funny as he is informative.  In the extras there is a massive golf dictionary that really helps if you have no idea what someone is talking about on the course if you are just starting out. 

4.  Zero Friction Golf Tees

I have not had an opportunity to use these as of yet, but they look pretty neat, which is always good for a gift.  They were the official tee of Remax Long Drive, and are supposed to add 3 yards or something like that.  They would be more durable than the regular tee.  They aren't to expensive so you can't say no to at least giving someone some and having them give them a try.

5.  A Swing Lesson at The Local Golf Place

This is going to be the most expensive gift on the list.  Swing lessons range from $35 to over $100.  I cannot think of anyone that does not need some sort of swing lesson.  Especially after not golfing on a course all Winter.  I know I would love this gift.  Some golfers may be to proud to admit they need a swing lesson or want to go, but getting it as a gift should convince them to go anyway.  They will end up thanking you for it.
